Microservices or Microservice Architecture is an architectural style that structures an application as a collection of services that is,  each function of an application is an independent service that can be altered, updated or taken down without affecting the rest of the application. It enables the rapid, frequent and reliable delivery of large, complex applications.

Microservices architecture has the following attributes:

• Application is broken into modular, loosely coupled components
• Application can be distributed across clouds and data centers
• Adding new features only requires those individual microservices to be updated
• Network services must be software-defined and run as a fabric for each microservice to connect to


Main Benefits of Microservices:
Improved Productivity: Breaking an application down into smaller autonomous fragments makes it easier to build and maintain. Each service can be developed, deployed, and managed independently, and can utilize different programming languages, different technology, and different software environments based on the needs of each.

Better Resiliency: Implementing microservice-based architecture adds ease to the process of  identifying and resolving the root cause of performance issues. The improved fault isolation offered by individual modules means larger applications remain unaffected by a single failure.
Increased Scalability: Individual services can also be scaled independently, and new components can be added without requiring downtime and redeployment of the entire system.
Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery: Microservices architecture allows cross-functional teams to develop, test, problem-solve, deploy, and update services independently, which leads to faster deployment and troubleshooting turnaround times.
